It’s almost here… the return of Manchester’s inner-city, multi-venue Neighbourhood Festival. Taking place on Saturday (1st October), the event is headlined by The Snuts, Everything Everything, and Sundara Karma, who were joined this week by special guests, The Lathums!

But NBHD isn’t just about the names we are familiar with. Over the years, the festival has played host to some of UK indie’s biggest stars in the early days of their career, so 2022 is likely to be no different. We have selected our five must-watch artists outside of the headliners for Saturday…

TEN TONNES (Gorilla) 15:00-15:30

Ten Tonnes: Ten Tonnes review – a breezy, tuneful debut | Pop and rock | The Guardian

You might recognise Ethan Barnett AKA Ten Tonnes from somewhere, and maybe it’s his resemblance to older brother, George Ezra. But Ethan has carved out a solo career to become a name in his own right, following his self-titled debut album which charted in the Top 40 and included singles, “Lucy”, “G.I.V.E”, and “Better Than Me”, all of which received widespread radio play on the likes of Radio X and Radio 1 upon release. His catchy indie pop anthems promise to be the perfect early visit on your NBHD checklist.

BROOKE COMBE (Canvas) 18:00-18:30

Scotland’s rising star, Brooke Combe is likely to attract a big crowd to Canvas on Saturday evening. With a sensational voice and a highly regarded live performance to back it up, Brooke has been taking the festival season by storm and recently sold out her debut headline tour. Expect to hear singles, “Are You With Me?” and “Impress You”, and fingers crossed for one of her popular covers. Who knows, you may also see a familiar face on bass, with Blossoms’ Charlie Salt often performing with Brooke’s live band.

CIAN DUCROT (Academy 2) 19:00-19:30

Irish Charts: Cian Ducrot reacts to All For You becoming first Irish Top 10 single

NBHD Festival will be rubbing their hands together at this booking, with many tipping Irish singer-songwriter, Cian Ducrot, for pop stardom following his breakthrough year. His high-charting single, “All For You” (ft. Ella Henderson) has propelled Cian into the limelight, and he has a host of other material now amassing millions of streams and contributing to his ongoing success. It’s highly likely Cian Ducrot will be a household name in years to come, so take the chance to see him at a small venue while you can!

TOM A SMITH (Bread Shed) 19:40-20:20

One man enjoying an impressive 2022 is Sunderland’s Tom A Smith. Along with receiving praise from Elton John and being selected as support for his Hyde Park show, Tom has released two EPs, played Glastonbury, and supported Gang of Youths and Miles Kane this year. He has also confirmed his first solo headline dates, with tickets expected to be snapped up quickly, so make sure you catch him on Saturday or head to one of his upcoming shows. STANLEYS (Bread Shed) 21:45-22:15

Stanleys have been a key part of this, along with the likes of The Lathums, and they are getting the recognition they deserve this year. With a sold out Manchester show and an EP released to widespread acclaim, Stanleys head to NBHD Festival brimming with confidence. It promises to be an unmissable local show for the band.
