One of the UK’s most unique festivals, bluedot has revealed details of this year’s ‘Family Friday’, reaffirming the Cheshire event as one of the best family friendly festivals out there today. Bluedot will take place at Jodrell Bank Observatory in July, with the ‘Family Day’ taking place on Friday 22nd July, the first full day of the 2022 edition.
The music and science festival is renowned for attracting big names like New Order, Hot Chip, and 2022 headliner Bjork, alongside the likes of astronaut, Tim Peake, and a whole host of scientific and cosmic innovations. But it has also garnered a reputation for catering to the younger crowd, with kids science shows, cinemas, activities and interactive workshops on show across the four days.
Bluedot already has a dedicated Mother & Baby space as well as free entry to Jodrell Bank’s Discovery Centre for ticketholders. This year, to celebrate Family Friday, bluedot will also host an illustration competition, giving children the chance to have their artwork displayed at the festival. Winners will be shown on the main stage screens throughout Family Friday, with one entry also having their drawing projected onto the Lovell Telescope.
The Space Shed also returns to bluedot for 2022, hosting stories, interviews and DJ sets, along with the Actual Reality Arcade, a life-sized interactive classic arcade game zone suitable for children of all ages. Dance workshops, discos and parades will take place throughout the weekend, as well as the Twisted Time Machine taking the audience on a journey through some of the best music decades. Jedi Lightsaber Training is also set to be a big hit in 2022, with the immersive light tunnel maze, Luminarium also confirmed to return.
Festival director, Ben Robinson commented: “After a two-year hiatus, our fifth instalment of bluedot looks set to be one of our best yet. The Family Friday line-up is packed with activities and experiences for festival-goers of all ages. While our musical acts are a massive draw and promise spectacular performances, bluedot offers so much more. Jodrell Bank is a jaw-dropping location and the perfect place to be inspired as a family by the wonders of science and culture, with hands-on workshops, electrifying experiences and hilariously engaging shows. We can’t wait to be back in action.”
Bluedot 2022 will take place from 21st to 24th July. Children’s day tickets starting from just £25 and under 5’s completely free.
