Warrington has established itself as a musical hub in recent years, with the emergence of Neighbourhood Weekender as one of the UK’s leading music events. Parr Hall has continued to feature on many major artists’ UK tour schedules, and RivFest has gone from strength to strength since being launched for a great cause. Now, the charity behind RivFest, The River Reeves Foundation (RRF) has announced a joint venture with Neighbourhood Weekender to give up and coming musicians a fantastic opportunity.
Artists are being invited to apply for RivFest22, and one of these applicants will be selected to open the Sunday main stage at this year’s Neighbourhood Weekender, taking place at Victoria Park on 28th and 29th May. The full lineup for RivFest will be revealed on Friday 1st April ahead of the event at Warrington’s Old Market, Golden Square on 5th, 6th and 7th August. Last year saw art rock innovators, Everything Everything top the bill, so it promises to be another strong lineup in 2022.
The Neighbourhood Weekender team will announce their chosen act from the shortlist on April 7th. They have said “We are really excited to launch this competition in partnership with the River Reeves Foundation for an up and coming act to win an opening slot to play on the same stage as the likes of Courteeners, Kasabian, Blossoms, Tom Grennan, Pale Waves and more.“
The River Reeves Foundation commented: “It is so exciting to be able to work closely with the Neighbourhood Weekender team and provide them with a shortlist of talented young musicians, one of which will be chosen by them to play on the main stage at the Weekender Festival in Warrington this coming May. It is a wonderful legacy for River and the achievements of Viola Beach, the band he was so proud to be a part of.”
