Based in Liverpool and born from the ashes of acclaimed band Blondes, a group garnering plenty of attention already is Permanent (Joy).

And today, the band hit an early landmark with the official release of their debut EP, Despair Will Make Me A Modern Man.

With just three singles to their name, Permanent (Joy) have already been picked out for sought-after support slots with Franz Ferdinand, Inhaler, and Blossoms.

The new sound is a darker spin on what previous fans of Blondes were used to, and to celebrate the new EP they will headline Liverpool Jacaranda on Saturday March 8th.

They are also set to perform a BBC Introducing Merseyside session and make an appearance at Liverpool Sound City Festival this May.

Alex Davison (songwriter) commented: “I had grown tired of writing songs about myself, and I knew we had to evolve beyond the indie pop we made with Blondes. I wanted to create something darker, more narrative-driven.

“We used to listen to In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Jeff Mangum in the tour van—it inspired me to craft a surreal, abstract story that revolves around life and death.

“That’s what led to Josephine. It started as an acoustic song, but when we added this vintage 80s string synth, it transformed into something that felt like an old memory coming to life.”
