Tipped as one of our artists to watch in 2023 at the start of the year, the long-awaited return of Dictator is upon us, as the first offering since the incredible Rubik’s Cube EP is out today.
Enough is Enough is the brand new single from the Scottish band as they take on corrupt politicians and powerful corporations to the backdrop of that distinctive Dictator sound which has garnered the band widespread early acclaim and a loyal fanbase.
Based in Edinburgh, Dictator comprise Michael Campbell (vocals), Zach Tarimo Goodhur (guitar), Joe Murty (bass), and Allan Ramsay (drums), all meeting at school in Livingston over a decade ago.
Since emerging onto the UK music scene, they have scooped Best Rock/Alternative Band at the SAMA (Scottish Alternative Music Awards) in 2021, and reached the final four of BBC Introducing‘s prestigious Scottish Act of the Year in 2022.
The band commented: “We are not a political band, but we believe that if you have something to say then you should say it and do so with your chest. For as long as memory serves, corrupt politicians and powerful corporations have made decisions on behalf of the many to benefit the few. They have manipulated mainstream media to divide the majority and polarise the population.
“However, over the last 12 months there has been a small glimmer of hope – the strike action movement. The power has always been with the people, and as we began to see some push back, we felt it right to vocalise our support in the only way we know how – through our music.”
