Blitz Vega, the duo formed by the The Smiths‘ Andy Rourke and former Happy Mondays guitarist Kav Sandhu, have released their highly anticipated debut album, Northern Gentleman.
The album landed on Friday to widespread acclaim, showcasing the final work of the iconic late bassist.
The band previously released single, “Love City”, to coincide with the one-year anniversary of Rourke’s passing.
It followed “Disconnected”, “Strong Forever”, “LA Vampire”, and “Lost & Found”, perfectly encapsulating the duo’s signature fusion of indie rock, alternative sounds, and cutting-edge electronica.
Kav commented on the themes: “It’s about those magical nights when you let loose and enjoy everything life has to offer.
“It’s about personal journeys, but also realizing how much you share with others along the way.
“Whether it’s a perfect night out or a bigger life experience, the song is about finding joy in the moment.”
Dedicated to Rourke, the album is not only poignant but a perfect showcase of their creative journey, friendship, and determination in the face of challenges such as Andy’s illness and lockdown.
After completing the record to honour Andy, Kav fulfilled his promise to continue Blitz Vega, and they have since performed at London’s Scala with more shows in the pipeline.
The Blitz Vega live lineup includes Asa Brown (keyboards, backing vocals), Rex Roulette (guitar), Greg Gent (guitar, backing vocals), Craig Eriksson (drums), and George Yelding (bass).
