Tramlines Festival returns to Hillsborough Park this weekend with a packed lineup of bands and artists gracing the city’s popular music event.
Headlined by Paolo Nutini, Snow Patrol, and Jamie T, the festival will run from Friday to Sunday across three main stages of music, comedy, and entertainment.
You can check out the full day and stage splits with set times here: Tramlines Festival 2024 – Stage Times Revealed – Northern Chorus, but we have narrowed it down to five artists we think are unmissable this year in Sheffield…
SOFT PLAY (18:30-19:30, T’Other Stage, Friday)
What a comeback for punk duo, Soft Play, who returned following a period of personal tragedy and mental health struggles with a rebrand after Slaves’ 2019 hiatus.
Punk’s Dead hit out at the critics of their name change, and their new album “Heavy Jelly” sees Isaac and Laurie at the peak of their powers.
They have always flourished on the live stage, and the new era is no different, with the Tramlines set promising noise, energy, and punk hits.
…
ENGLISH TEACHER (18:00-18:45, The Leadmill Stage, Saturday)
You’ll be hard pushed to find an album this year better than English Teacher‘s debut, “This Could Be Texas”, a flawless first record from the Leeds group.
In a breakthrough year for the band, Lily Fontaine (lead singer) even found time to speak in parliament to fight for the £1 Grassroots Venue Levy!
The bigger stages beckon for English Teacher, and an evening slot on The Leadmill Stage is sure to attract a big crowd for Yorkshire‘s latest indie stars.
…
LIME GARDEN (13:00-13:30, The Leadmill Stage, Sunday)
After several years of graft, Brighton’s Lime Garden are beginning to get the recognition they deserve, and it’s safe to say they won’t be performing afternoon slots on the third stage for much longer.
Their critically acclaimed debut album “One More Thing”, released via So Young earlier this year, was a landmark moment for the band, and it’s time to believe the hype.
Be sure to get in early on the Sunday for this one, as it promises to be a “we were there” moment watching this talented quartet.
…
THE MAGIC GANG (18:45-19:30, The Leadmill Stage, Sunday)
2024 is The Magic Gang‘s farewell, one of the the most underrated British indie bands of the last 10 years.
Their farewell shows were something to behold, with big fan of the band, Tom Ogden (Blossoms) even joining at New Century Hall to perform one of their most popular singles, “All That I Want Is You”.
This could be your last chance to say goodbye to a modern indie gem, so unmissable is certainly the word for this set!
…
YARD ACT (20:00-21:00, T’Other Stage, Sunday)
And last but certainly not least is another Yorkshire band in the shape of “post punk’s poster boys”, Yard Act.
Don’t be deceived by the wit of frontman, James Smith, who you could easily confuse on the T’other Stage for one of its many comedians performing across the weekend, because this is a band packed with serious musical talent and a live show to back it up.
Their second album, “Where’s My Utopia?”, preceded an impressive Glastonbury Woodsies slot, and they will perform a highly anticipated Millennium Square show in Leeds next month.
Undoubtedly one of the best live bands out there at the minute, so close your festival in style with Yard Act!
