The Howl & The Hum, the creation of Leeds-based songwriter Sam Griffiths, has unveiled new single “Dirt”, the third track from the eagerly awaited second album, Same Mistake Twice, set for release on September 6th via Miserable Disco.
In Same Mistake Twice, Griffiths delves into the pain and chaos of recent tumultuous years across 12 tracks of his most direct songwriting to date.
Confronting the breakup of his band, the global pandemic, and his future in music, he focuses on the anxiety that accompanies any breakup: questions of perception, reputation, memory, and morality.
Collaborating with songwriters Elanor Moss and Matthew Herd (Seafarers), and producer Joseph Futak (Tapir!, Lilo), Griffiths drew inspiration from artists like Big Thief, Phoebe Bridgers, and Randy Newman.
Drawing on the free musical range of the open mic nights where he began, Griffiths turns inward to confront the pain of personal growth.
Sam commented: “I’m bored of songs that imply the singer is flawless. This song is about all of the scum and shrapnel we carry with us, all the things we’ve done wrong that we hope the people we’ve loved keep to themselves for the simple unspoken promise that we’ll do the same”.
‘Same Mistake Twice’ is set for release September 6th 2024 via Miserable Disco.
