We are all for celebrating the best of northern music here at Northern Chorus, and this year bands and artists will be getting formal recognition with the launch of the Northern Music Awards.
Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s largest music therapy charity, are the organisation behind the new event, which takes place on Tuesday 23rd April at Manchester’s Albert Hall.
The event will help fundraise for Nordoff and Robbins’ vision to open a dedicated state of the art music therapy centre for Greater Manchester – based in Salford, along with providing an annual celebration of northern music.
The first wave of names have now been revealed for the night’s performers, with Liam Fray (Courteeners), English Teacher, Antony Szmierek, and The K’s all taking to the stage.
Manchester music icon, Lisa Stansfield, will also be performing, as she collects the first ever “Northern Icon” award.
Nadra Shah, Director of Engagement and Communications, Nordoff and Robbins, commented: “The Northern Music Awards aims to celebrate the massive musical talent that continues to come out of this region and will be held annually in different Northern cities.
“We want to honour the enormous success of established artists such as the award winning and multi-million album selling Lisa Stansfield – but also spotlight emerging musicians who may not yet be recognised at a national level.
“We really want to support and help to grow the eco system of Northern musicians whilst shining a light on the transformative work we do with music therapy to connect with some of the region’s most isolated communities.”
Tickets for the award show, priced at £40, are on sale to the public now at www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk/nmas.
