Irish indie pop outfit, modernlove have followed up their critically acclaimed string of single releases with a new EP in the shape of “On My Mind”. It is the follow-up to “monochrome blue”, the EP released in 2021, which included some of the Drogheda band’s biggest hits such as “Liquorice” and “2 Missed Calls”.
The EP sees the band exploring a new direction with their sound, evolving in a way comparable with The 1975, with whom’s fanbase modernlove will be sure to tap into. The title track addresses personal struggles with mental health following the pandemic, but sonically delivers a warm indie pop earworm and is supported by a light hearted music video. Check out the full seven-track EP HERE.
The band commented: “Oh My Mind explores the modern-day neuroses of young people and the mental health challenges brought upon them by pop culture, the internet and, most recently, the coronavirus lockdowns. I think we all went a little mad over lockdown and most of this EP was written in that state of social isolation. Without distraction or release from cycles of negative thought, you can begin to spiral to the point of derealisation and being in a constant state of panic.
“But then we juxtaposed that with a brighter and more playful composition. As young people, we tend to joke about our mental health as a way of relating to one another and to not feel so alone in all of it. So it felt natural to write a poppy, upbeat song about such dark themes rather them treating them with a forced solemnity and formality.”
The band will also set out on their first UK and Ireland headline tour in November, with a second London date added and Manchester date upgraded due to demand. Tickets are available from: https://music.akirarecords.com/modernlovetour.
