Stoke / Manchester indie four-piece, Shader released their debut vinyl single ‘Runaway’ on 7” clear vinyl and all digital platforms on Friday 12th March, via 42s Records.
It follows on from previous singles‘True To Life’, and ‘Time is Right’, the latter of which hit number two in the UK Physical Singles Chart in July 2020 and remained in the top three for three weeks.
‘Runaway’ is Shader at their raw, fresh best, an energetic track made for a live show. It has received widespread acclaim already across social media, and signals a band and label making a name for themselves. Many in the North West will be familiar with 42s as one of the UK’s top indie nightclubs in Manchester. The label derived from the club might soon find some of its tracks, like ‘Runaway’, being played in the venue post June 21st.
Songwriter, Stu Whiston says of the track: “Runaway is about the anxiety of everyday life, real vs. fake, the upsurge of talentless TV celebrity culture becoming a legitimate career move and the overwhelming desire to runaway to somewhere with some soul. It was written in a flat in Didsbury, Manchester, I was working at Blockbuster Video, spending all my spare time watching classic films (perks of the job), daytime TV and becoming obsessed with 80’s post-punk band, The Sound. The guitar intro and feel are my nod to the genius of Adrian Borland of The Sound.”
Shader will set out on a UK tour later this year and have an album planned for the near future. Keep an eye on their socials for more news! Listen to ‘Runaway’ here: https://open.spotify.com/track/5lmFHjas4JLsKAaJz5Czkh?si=gS4sh5XtQf6_cSDu0reh4w
